Former Governor Romney Greets Honor Flight Veterans

Former Governor Mitt Romney took time out from his busy presidential campaign schedule to greet Honor Flight veterans returning from Washington, DC Wednesday night. Romney was completing a three-day bus tour of Ohio and had just held his final rally in the state at Seagate Center in downtown Toledo. When he arrived at the Grand Aire FBO at Toledo Express Airport to board his jet, he was informed that a plane carrying seventy-eight World War II and Korean War veterans would be landing soon. He asked the Honor Flight staff if it was okay to say hello to these members of the greatest generation.

Once the Boeing 737 landed and parked at Grand Aire, Romney stood at the ramp entrance and thanked each and every vet for their service as they came off the plane – including several who required wheel chair assistance. Many of the passengers chatted with Mr. Romney and asked him to pose for a photograph. After the veterans went in to the hangar to greet hundreds of their family and friends for a planned welcome back ceremony, Mr. Romney and his delegation quietly boarded their flight and continued on to their destination. This touching gesture by Romney received little notice from the local or national press but was greatly appreciated by these humble heroes of two of our nation’s most difficult conflicts.

Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 2007 to send veterans of Northwest Ohio to Washington, DC to see the memorials built to honor their service. To date, 1240 veterans have safely flown on 27 flights to see their memorials. Grand Aire is the home of Honor Flight at Toledo Express Airport.
